Entry by plain:
For inhabitants of all countries (also for tourists with Israeli nationality) an international valid passport is obligatory. We recommend that the passport is valid for at least 6 more months after departure (this is not absolutely necessary for the Maldives).
However, please make sure that your passport is valid at least for your whole stay on the Maldives. It happened that tourists’ entry was denied and tourists were sent back to their home countries.
It is important, that all your travel documents are internationally accepted. The permission for entry is given when arriving at the international airport in Male. This permission is valid for 30 days (tourist visa - no charge for entry mark in your passport, no photo necessary).
This regulation is also valid for foreign nationals living in Germany with their national passports or identity cards for stateless people or asylum seekers. Limited passports, issued in Germany, are accepted by the entry officers of the Maldives. Issue of visa in Germany is not possible.
In general we recommend book your accomodation in advance.
Visa mark of the state of Israel in your passport is not a problem for your entry.
During their flight to the Maldives passengers get an arrival and departure card. These have to be filled in and given to your passport when arriving.
The extension of a tourist visa up to 90 days is possible. However, you need to apply for it on location in Male. In according to that you need a corresponding letter of recommendation of your booked holiday resort, which has to be issued locally as well. Acceptance has to be given by the "Department of Immigration and Emigration" in Male.
The
booking of a touristic stay of more than 30 days is made on your own risk. (Attention: even if you stay just one day longer than the end of your 30 days visa, without having an accepted visa extension, high fines and an entry prohibition may follow.)
Children:
Children can enter when unregistered in their parents` passport (since 2007 not possible anymore). For children younger than 12 years we recommend a children’s` passport with current passport photograph. Older children should travel with their own passport.
Inoculation for flying guests:
Malaria protection is recommended. According to the Health Minister of the Maldives there have not been any cases of Malaria within the last years. Inoculating against cholera or amaryllis typhus is only needed, if entry or departure is made via countries where these inoculations are obligatory. In addition to this information you should contact your doctor for further recommendation.
Medicine for your personal needs:
In case you need bigger amounts of prescription medicine for yourself, during your stay on the Maldives, you should have an official letter of your doctor or hospital (in English) to present to the customs authority at the airport when arriving. This letter has to document the amount of medicine as well.
Entry by ship:
For your entry by ship the following is valid:
For every foreign ship Male is destination harbour. The outward journey is not to make via the atolls!
